Review of Glastron SSV 164

Basic specs..

The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.

The boat may be equipped with an engine at 117 hp (87 kW)..

The transmission is a Z-drive aka sterndrive.

My new but old '72 Glastron V-164...

Hey all. So I pulled the trigger and also bought a 1972 Glastron V-164 for 2k. The boat itself is super clean and the engine runs great. The previous owner had it for 10 years and his dad had it for another 38. It came with all the original manuals, repair receipts/maintenance journel, ski's, ropes, jackets, two props and last but not least a Mercruiser/Stern Repair Book. The lakes up here are frozen so I couldn't take it out for a spin but he fired it up for the first time right in front of me and ran it for a while. I then fired it up when he brought it over and it purred then as well. The engine is amazingly clean and he definitely took extremely good care of it. I'll post some pics as well.

Broker's Comments

This is a beautiful and rare classic Glastron with a BMW B220 petrol engine and ZF leg. The boat has been completely restored, just about everything has been completely restored or replaced other than the leg which has had an oil change. The leg is slow on the downwards trim and drops slowly when the leg is left up. We think there is a sticking butterfly valve in the trim pump which may be sticking or worn. The engine has been stripped and rebuilt professionally and has new electronic ignition, new cylinder head and new wiring and runs beautifully. All new dashboard and gauges other than the original BMW trim gauge. The floors were stripped out and the stringers were replaced and new floors fitted. The seating has been reupholstered in `BMW colours as were the originals. The Gelcoat has been restored as well as possible for a boat of this age and is looking great. There are some spider cracks and a little blistering on the bow but it stills great with the metallic flake gelcoat. There are plenty of pictures available of the rebuild etc. The trailer is a 2 year old SBS ELR 1500. If you are looking for a classic boat that stands out from the crowd, look no further.
